Hassan Hajjaj's Solo Exhibition

05/04/2013 - 05/05/2013

Aria Art Gallery is delighted to present for the first time in Italy a solo exhibition by Hassan Hajjaj, one of the Morocco’s finest artist’s today. The show is a special event organized on the occasion of Film Middle East Now, a festival on contemporary Middle Eastern and North African cinema and visual arts.

Hajjaj has selected 12 of his works made in the past 10 years for the show “VogueArabe”. As shown in the title, the exhibition presents an ironic and provocative call to Vogue magazine and its glamorous and glossy photo shoots, which often are set in the kasbah of Marrakesh or Casablanca. As Vogue uses European models, Hassan Hajjaj presents a series of portraits of Moroccan women, who are dressed in clothes designed by the him. Each photograph is framed with wood, similar to a shelf that contains match boxes, coca cola and olive cans.

“With VogueArabe I show a serie of artworks created in the lastest ten years –Hassan Hajjaj says- I snap photos of my friends – says Hassan Hajjaj – Moroccan women that could belong to all the Arab world, women at the same time proud and real: people who want to show our culture, pride, strength, our traditional fashion, style, urban, our swaga… I used many references of global brands from West to add a flavor to it and to show how in the end we are all the same”.
